Education

Thousands of children and young people enjoy the experience of a writer visit each year through Poetry Ireland’s Writers in Schools Scheme. The Scheme supports visits by writers and storytellers to primary & post-primary schools throughout the Republic of Ireland. The Scheme is one of the longest running arts-in-education programmes in the country and 2007 marked the 30th anniversary of when it was set up by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon. Poetry Ireland has been running the Writers in Schools Scheme since 1996.

Thanks to lottery funding support from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, we are delighted to be able to announce the establishment of Writers in Schools Northern Ireland (WIS NI). Through the Scheme, primary and post-primary schools in the North can now apply for support for a visit or residency by a writer or storyteller.

The Writers in Libraries Scheme, established by the Arts Council in 1985, will provide funding for imaginative literary events in libraries across the country. The Scheme will encourage libraries to partner with local and national literary festivals, resource organisations, and will also encourage libraries to use digital and social media. The Scheme is co-funded by the Arts Council and the Library Council, and is managed and administered by Poetry Ireland. CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE
