Publications/ repertoire/
productions & background experience

Repertoire: I tell traditional tales, funny stories, scary stories and anecdotes in English and Irish and both. I also sing story songs and ballads.

Background experience: I worked in Dublin City Public Libraries from 1983 to 2000.  It was there that I first started storytelling. In Coolock, Donaghmede and Ballymun libraries, I told stories to pre-school groups and primary school classes – up to 70 kids and more.  I also told to groups of children with disabilities.

Since 2000, I have been a part-time storyteller telling in libraries and schools, at festivals and all sorts of occasions, mainly in Dublin and neighbouring counties.

I am a member of Storytellers of Ireland / Aos Scéal Éireann.  www.storytellersofireland.com

Session Details

I tell stories. The audience listens. In some of the stories they join in a bit. I tell them everybody is a storyteller and I often invite them to tell a tale. And some of them usually do – all kinds of tales that always bring a smile to my face and theirs. With younger classes and pre-school groups I use picture books as well as telling from my head.

I can tell in the classroom or in a hall or library or schoolyard, indeed in any comfortable space where the children can sit, ideally in a semi-circle (on the ground works better than on chairs – but both work). I like a cup of tea and a glass of water.

Ideally, the audience should be roughly the same age group. For example, a third, fourth and fifth class together would work well. But a sixth with a senior infants would not – unless it was planned e.g. as part of a buddy-type programme. Anything is possible!

Insím scéalta i nGaeilge agus i mBéarla agus sa dá teanga. Bainim taitneamh as scéalta a insint i nGaeilge agus ba mhaith liom go mbainfeadh na páistí taitneamh as éisteacht leis na scéalta a insím. Go dtí seo, bhain – gach aon uair!
I tell stories in Irish and in English and in both languages. I enjoy telling stories in Irish and I would like that the children enjoy listening to them. Up to now they have – every time!

Let’s just make sure that you (the school) and me (the storyteller) have a good chat beforehand so we both know what we expect and what will work best.
