Maeve Friel is the author of the popular series Witch in Training (Harper Collins, 2002-2006) which has been translated into a dozen languages and is also available as a BBC audio book. Her latest book Tiger Lily – Heroine in the Making (Stripes, 2007), is about a girl who is so obsessed with reading that she has determined she will be a heroine too and roam the world in search of adventure.
Her picture books for younger readers include Felix on the Move (Leapfrog, 2000) and Felicity Floss: Tooth Fairy (Leapfrog, 2006). Novels for older readers include The Lantern Moon (Poolbeg) which was awarded the Bisto Merit Award, The Deerstone, The Lantern Moon and Charlie’s Story.
Her short stories have been widely anthologised e.g. in Midnight Feast (Harper Collins, 2007), Christmas Animal Stories (Little Tiger Press, 2007) and Scary Stories for 10 year olds (Macmillan, 2000).
Winner of the Hennessy Award, her short stories for adults have been broadcast on BBC and RTE radio and she has also written a non-fiction title Here Lies – a guide to who’s buried where in Ireland.
Born in Derry, Maeve is a graduate of University College Dublin.
