productions & background experience
Playwright, novelist & screenwriter. My work, staged & screened in Ireland, UK, Europe & Canada, is included in the Field Day Anthology of Irish Writing & profiled in Irish Women Writers: an A-Z Guide (Greenwood Press, USA, 2006). My worked is translated into several languages. Published plays: Fancy Footwork (1997, 2nd Ed. Soc. Irish Playwrights) & Kalahari Blues & Other Plays (Mirage, 2006).
I have published a novel: Song for Salamander (Trafford, 2004) & short stories in anthologies of Irish writing and international literary journals. I have received Arts Council & European Script Fund Film awards for Girls in Silk Kimonos (a screenplay celebrating the Gore Booth sisters) & MHA TV Script award for Kevin. Other awards include EU Theatre Award, a writer exchange to Finland, & my play, The Parting Glass, was an international prizewinner (Irish Theatre Project Playwrighting Contest USA).
RTÉ has broadcast my radio plays, & my film, Gypsies, was screened in New York's Lincoln Centre & Sac Francisco's Plaza Cinemas. Non-fiction includes Let's Help Our Children Talk (O'Brien Press, 1977) & commissioned essays for international arts, literary, theatre, film & educational journals.
I have presented work at the 4th & 5th International Women's Playwrights conferences, & in Marseilles at Semaine Mondiale des Auteurs Vivants de Théatre. I have worked in professional, prison & community theatre. Commissions include The Ring of Mont de Balison (Ranelagh Millienium Project), Kalahari Blues (Galloglass Theatre Company nationwide tour), The Gold of Tradaree (Clare Arts Award), The Mighty Oak of Riverwood (Betty Ann Norton Theatre School 40 years celebration) performed at the Gate Theatre; & Fancy Footwork (Dublin Theatre Festival) performed by Mountjoy prisoners at the Focus Theatre.
