The submission period for Poetry Ireland Review 100, edited by Paul Muldoon, is now closed. PIR 100 will be on the shelves late March .

Submissions are welcome for Caitríona O'Reilly's PIR 101.

Crashaw Prize Shortlist

 

Salt Publishing has announced the shortlist for The Crashaw Prize, including one from Eoghan Walls.

Whittled down from 120 full length manuscripts the shortlist includes:

Judges will choose will choose four collections for publication during 2010. The winners will be announced on Friday 26th of February.

Irish Times Poetry Now Award Shortlist

 

The Irish Times Poetry Now Award shortlist was announced on Saturday (30 Jan). The five poets listed for the award are:

  • Ciaran Carson for On The Night Watch
  • Vona Groarke for Spindrift
  • Sinéad Morrissey for Through the Square Window 
  • Eileán Ní Chuilleanáin for The Sun-Fish
  • Peter Sirr for The Thing Is

The winner will be announced during the DLR International Poetry Festival, March 25th-28th.

The Irish PEN Award for Contribution to Irish Literature 2010

 

Brendan Kennelly has been announced as the 2010 recipient of the Irish PEN Award for Contribution to Irish Literature.

Poet, personality, raconteur and professor, Brendan has published over 30 books of poetry, which most famously include Cromwell (1983/1987), The Book of Judas (1991), Poetry me Arse and recent publications Reservoir Voices (Bloodaxe,2009)

In a career which spans 40 years, Brendan Kennelly’s work also includes prose and his Greek play trilogy, Antigone, Medea & The Trojan Women.  As Professor of Modern Literature in Trinity College, Dublin, a position he held for 30 years, he is forever associated with that university.

The Award will be presented at The Irish Pen Annual Dinner on Friday 29 January 2010 at The Royal St George Yacht Club, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.
