Guests across some of Ireland’s top hotels will be treated to a selection of Pillow Poems on turndown to celebrate Poetry Day Ireland on Thursday 27 April.
Guests of the luxury hotel Group, The Doyle Collection will find a “Pillow Poem” card placed in their hotel rooms at turn-down at each of their hotels including The Westbury (Dublin), The River Lee (Cork) and The Croke Park (Dublin), as well as the group’s hotels in the UK and the US. The poems featured will be selected from Poetry Ireland’s recent anthologies All Through the Night (edited by Marie Heaney) and Everything to Play For: 99 Poems About Sport (edited by John McAuliffe), both of which were generously supported by The Doyle Collection.
Featured night poems to soothe guests to sleep are Paula Meehan's 'The Quilt', John Montague's '11 Rue Daguerre', Seamus Heaney's 'Night Drive', Robert Graves' 'She Tells Her Love While Half Asleep', Ann Le Marquand Hartigan's 'The Hawser Throwing a Line', and Maxine Kumin's 'After Love'.
Guests at The Croke Park will be treated to sports-themed poems by WB Yeats, Brendan Kennelly, Gabriel Fitzmaurice, John O'Donnell and Padraig J. Daly.
