Help Strokestown Poetry Festival celebrate its 20th birthday – with 20 poems, none of them more than 20 lines long. And here’s a surprise – you can get to read them all for free on Poetry Day Ireland!
Follow the trail around the town, starting at 5pm from the Community Development Offices (in Bawn Street, not far from the main gates to Strokestown Park House), and ending there at 7pm.
In between you’ll follow a treasure trail of poems from the Strokestown Poetry Festival’s 20/20 Poetry Competition, which brought in entries from all around the world. The best of the poems will be on display boards for everyone to read, set out at points all around the town of Strokestown in County Roscommon, from April 26th through to May 7th, with a few surprises thrown in. The 20th Festival takes place from May 3rd-7th, making this Poetry Day Ireland event a lovely taster session for what lies ahead – readings by 70 plus local, national and international poets, music, films, book launches, and more. See www.strokestownpoetry.org for details of the festival.
