No Worst There is None

<i>No Worst There is None</i>
The Stomach Box in association with RTÉ Radio Drama and Poetry Ireland, presents No Worst There is None, a unique listening experience for one in the bedroom where the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins lived in Newman House Dublin in the 1880s. It is directed by Dylan Tighe and composed by Seán Mac Erlaine.

No Worst There is None takes the listener into the psyche of Hopkins as he approaches death – fusing poetry, an original choral score, electronic sound design and found texts.

Each time slot is free and will last 30 minutes, and it is suitable for 1 person only.

It will run Tuesday, May 21st through Friday, May 24th at the Dublin Writers' Festival.

Conor Gearty: Lecture on Michael Collins

The honour of your company is requested at the 29th Biannual Lecture: Was Michael Collins a Terrorist -- or a Human Rights Worker? Reflections on Law and Revolution in Ireland, 1916-22.  The lecture will be delivered by Conor Gearty, Professor of Human Rights Law, The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).  The lecture will be followed by a wine reception.

The Thief of Fire

The Thief of Fire celebrates Rimbaud's Illuminations. Ciaran Carson has just published his new English versions, In the Light Of, published by Gallery Press. Liam Ó Muirthile will read newly commissioned Irish versions. The reading will feature on-screen projections by Margaret Lonergan, and commissioned music by Seán Mac Erlaine.

La nuit est ma femme: Jack Kerouac

La nuit est ma femme will construct a literary exploration of Kerouac's relationship to French, to Catholicism and Buddhism; of his bi-lingual identity; and of his fraught relationship with America. The selections will draw on his letters, poems, haiku and novels.

Two writers - Gabriel Rosenstock and Gearóid Mac Lochlainn - will both translate and respond to Kerouac's work. The texts will be read to improvised jazz accompaniment by The Dirty Jazz Band and on-screen projections created by Margaret Lonergan.

The Western Writers' Centre: Ted Hughes Weekend

The Western Writers’ Centre invites you to the inaugural Ted Hughes weekend, which will enable participants to experience for themselves the special ambience of Doonreagan. The event runs from 24 May to 26 May. Among speakers will be Professor Terry Gifford, Dr Mark Wormald, and Dr Gillian Groszewski. Director Alex Dmitriev will present a workshop production of Doonreagan, a new play by Ann Henning Jocelyn.

There is an open call for Applications (in English and in German) for the Artist in Residence Programme 2014 in Vienna.
