The winners of the Dromineer Literary Festival Children's Poetry Competition were announced during a prize giving ceremony at Lough Derg Yacht Club, Dromineer, Co. Tipperary on Saturday 6 October 2018.
Poet and author Geraldine Mitchell, who is a facilitator on the Writers in Schools scheme has judged the Schools' Competition several times, was hugely impressed by the high standard of entries submitted by the participating children.
The theme for the 2018 competition was Wild Wonders and Imagined Worlds. Participating schools were given the following prompt:
Let your imagination take you on a journey, maybe it’s to somewhere you have already been, or somewhere you just dream about. Most likely it doesn’t even exist. Have fun with words; make it real, full of smells and sounds and tastes and things to see. Try to share the magic of your flight of fancy. Take us with you. Most of all: have fun with words!
Entry to the competition was free, and the competition was open to primary school children in 3rd-6th class in Co. Tipperary.
Keep an eye on the Festival's website for details of the 2019 competition.
