Writers in Schools scheme open to applications for virtual visits
Poetry Ireland's Writers in Schools scheme, which facilitates visits by writers and storytellers to primary and post-primary schools in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, is open to applications for virtual visits.
For the duration of the Covid-19 crisis and its restrictions, schools can apply for support for a virtual visit by a writer or storyteller. These visits are:
- 1 hour in duration with a selected writer
- €75/£65 cost to the school
We will continue to support in-person visits upon formal agreement between the school and the writer, and if in adherence with public health guidelines:
- 2-2.5 hours
- €100/£85 per visit
Want to learn more about how a virtual visit might work for your school? You can read our news story about a virtual visit with a class in Timahoe National School, Co Laois.
And here's a quote from the Principal, Michael McEvoy.
"The session went really well and there was great engagement from the children. Oisin [McGann] was funny, informative and very obliging with his time. He gave the children great insight into the life of an author/illustrator. We could have spent another hour with him, such was the engagement with the children."
