As an Irish Times Best Selling author of fiction for children I have a passion for bringing Irish Heritage and history to life through Creative Writing and storytelling.
My areas of expertise include English, History and Folklore in particular ancient societies and medieval Ireland. I use storytelling and creative writing to teach children about local history, ringforts, megalithic tombs, monasteries, the famine, castles and history. I explore the rich tapestry of language and teach children about the origin of fairy tales and folklore in an Irish and International context.
I provide unique, fun, interactive lessons that focus on all strands of the curriculum. I am available to provide a Reading and Q&A, Discussion about my books and the life of a writer, Creative Writing Workshop and Storytelling Workshops.
Session Details: Reading/Q&A and Creative Writing: 7-10 year olds
Take a trip through Irish history and meet some of the ghastly ghosts unique to Irish myths and legends. Learn how to create your own ghost story and discover how to write creepy tales from the author of The Ghosts of Magnificent Children and The Girl Who Ate the Stars (Poolbeg Press). I will read an extract from my novel and will answer any questions that you have about the life of a writer.
Reading / Q&A and creative session for 11-15 year olds:
Enter into the ghostly world of gothic fiction. Children will be introduced to classic gothic novels such as Frankenstein and Dracula. We will look at how classic gothic novels influence children’s books today and children will learn how to create a gothic atmosphere by looking at setting and characters. I will read from my novel The Girl Who Ate the Stars and children will get the opportunity to write their own gothic story.
Age Group Details
7-10 and 11-15 and 15-18 are my preferred age groups as my books are most suitable for readers of this age.
