Publications/Repertoire/Productions & Background Experience
Also a singer. My rich recording career spans over 30 years with over a dozen albums to his credit. His 1996 CD, When I was Young is a collection of Irish songs in English aimed at primary school children. His book, It's Off my Rambles was published by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland in 1993 & he is currently working on another book, Between Fiddling and Dancing which is due in 2007. Both these books cover the subject of Ulster song, music & folklore.
I am one of Ireland's best known traditional singers & have appeared at numerous Irish & international folk, literary & storytelling festivals. In 1992 I received the Seán O'Boyle Cultural Traditions Award in recognition of his work as a collector & singer. In 2002, I received the Irish television TG4 National Music for 'Traditional Singer of the Year'. While I'm known previously as a singer, I'm also a storyteller in my own right, having worked with such master storytellers as Jack McCann, Tom McDevitte, Eamon Kelly, Andy McKinley, and for over twenty years with the great John Campbell. I now work with the redoubtable storyteller, Jack Lynch (see also on WIS web-directory.)
