Publications/Repertoire/Productions & Background Experience

Simone is a German storyteller, writer and teacher based in Dublin. She grew up in a small town in Germany close to the Fairy Tale Road where the Brothers Grimm collected their stories and a bit of that magic seeps into her stories.

She is a trained teacher (English and German Language teaching), but moved to Ireland in 2011, following her heart to be a full-time storyteller. Here she founded the storytelling theatre StoryGate together with the Irish storyteller and puppeteer Michael Phelan.

She has told stories in many libraries, schools and at festivals (Three River Storytelling Festival, Cape Clear Island International Storytelling Festival, Mountains to Sea dlr Book Festival among others) and has been part of the Children’s Book Festival that runs all over Ireland many times.

Simone’s stories cover a wide range from fairy tales and folklore from many cultures over literary tales, myths, personal stories and urban legends. Her stories are highly interactive and engaging. She encourages audience participation and tickles the imagination of her listeners with enthralling and powerful stories.

Simone tells for young listeners, older children and teenagers.

She also gives creative writing workshops and storytelling workshops for children, teenagers and teachers.

Using her native language (German) she has worked closely with the Goethe Institute Dublin, tells bilingual stories and helps students to learn a second language through storytelling.

Session Details

Storytelling sessions can be 30-60 min long and a visit would normally be 2½ hours long with different groups. Up to 80 children can attend a session at a time, though, with younger listeners (4-6 year-olds) it is advisable to have smaller numbers than that.

The stories are told in a very interactive way with pictures and story stones as well as join-in actions for the younger age group. There’s also time for questions after each story.

Workshops are usually 60-90 min long. They all include storytelling as well as different creative exercises for either creating or telling your own story. Numbers for a workshop are limited to 30 children at a time.

Age Group Details

Simone works with a wide age group of 4-18 year-olds. For the sessions it is necessary to have similar age groups together so that the stories can be adjusted and chosen accordingly and the storytelling experience is highly enjoyable for all involved. Previous experience has shown that these age group combinations work the best: 4-6 year olds, 7-9 year-olds, 10-12 year olds, 12-14 year-olds, 14-18 year-olds.
