Angela T. Carr wins the 2018 Laureate’s Prize for Best Single Poem

UK Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy and the Poetry Business have announced the winners of the Laureate's Prize for a single poem entered into the 2018 Poetry Business International Book and Pamphlet Competition. Dublin-based poet Angela T Carr was awarded the first prize for her poem 'Girl with Child on a Swan's Wing', with second and third places awarded to Mara Bergman and Susannah Hart respectively. 

Angela was one of eleven writers selected from throughout Ireland to take part in the inaugural Words Ireland National Mentoring Programme in 2017. The winning poem was developed during Angela's mentorship with Enda Wyley at Poetry Ireland as part of the Programme. 

In 2014 Angela was selected for the Poetry Ireland Introductions series, short-listed for the Listowel Writers' Week Single Poem Award, a finalist in the Mslexia Poetry Competition, judged by Wendy Cope, and winner of the Allingham Poetry Prize. 

Her debut collection, How to Lose Your Home & Save Your Life, was published by Bradshaw Books, November 2014.

She is a recent winner in The London Magazine Poetry Competition, and has been placed or shortlisted in the Trócaire Poetry Ireland Poetry Competition, Hippocrates International Poetry Award, Gregory O'Donoghue International Poetry Competition, iYeats International Poetry Competition, Oxford Brookes International Poetry Competition and Aesthetica Magazine Creative Writing Award. She was also nominated for a Pushcart Prize and read at Dublin Castle for Poetry Ireland on Culture Night.

Angela is currently working on her second collection.
