Bright Ideas for Poetry Day Ireland 2023 are Open!

Poetry Ireland is inviting submissions for Bright Ideas for Poetry Day Ireland 2023.
Poetry Day Ireland will take place on Thursday 27 April 2023 with the theme, 'Message in a Bottle'.
Acclaimed poet Martina Evans chose ‘Message in a Bottle’ as our theme for Poetry Day Ireland this year, reminding us, in the words of Paul Celan, that “a poem can be a message in a bottle, sent out in the – not always greatly hopeful – belief that somewhere and sometime it could wash up on land, on heartland perhaps. Poems in this sense too are under way: they are making towards something.”
People are invited to draw inspiration from the theme in a myriad of ways. The creative potential of glass might provide a jumping off point for eco-poets and canal clean-up crews, while those with experience of migration and emigration might be drawn towards the drift of words and people across oceans.
We are offering up to €1600 each towards a maximum of four creative and innovative ideas for Poetry Day Ireland 2023 through a public submissions call out. Proposals should inspire and engage audiences with poetry in a new way. While we love traditional poetry readings, we want our Bright Ideas to surprise us! We're looking for outside-the-box ideas that help people to encounter poetry in unusual ways, places, and spaces.
Programming proposals for this funding must be submitted by 11.59pm on Sunday 12 March. Four grants of up to €1600 each are available. Smaller-scale projects are welcome too, with €500 being the minimum amount of funding you can request.
