DUAIS BASHŌ 2024
Déagóirí ó Cheann Ceann na Tíre ag Cumadh HAIKU
Ghlac os cionn 220 déagóir ó iarbhunscoileanna thart timpeall an oileáin páirt sa gcomórtas dátheangach DUAIS BASHŌ a eagraíonn IMRAM i gcomhar le hÉigse Éireann. Tá buaiteoirí an chomórtais fógartha inniu. Chum 224 dalta as 19 scoil i mBaile Átha Cliath, Dún na nGall, Cill Mhantáin, Cill Dara, Ciarraí, Tír Eoghain, Corcaigh, An Clár, Maigh Eo, Ceatharlach, Gaillimh agus Luimneach 446 haiku mar chuid den chomórtas.
Cuireadh ceardlanna haiku ar siúl sna scoileanna faoi stiúir na bhfilí Maeve O’ Sullivan, Rody Gorman agus Liam Carson le deis a thabhairt do na daltaí tuiscint a fháil ar ‘bhealach an haiku’. Is é an scríbhneoir clúiteach agus ball d’Aosdána Gabriel Rosenstock a rinne moltóireacht ar an gcomórtas.
Seo mar a labhair Liam Carson, stiúrthóir IMRAM faoi: ‘Ardú chroí is ea é na céadta duine óg i mbun filíochta, formhór acu don chéad uair riamh. Tugann DUAIS BASHŌ deis dóibh iad féin a chur in iúil ar bhealach taitneamhach, spraoiúil, ar bhealach an haiku.’
Tá ríméad ar Éigse Éireann a bheith ag obair arís le hIMRAM ar Duais Bashō, a deir Liz Kelly, Stiúrthóir Éigse Éireann. ‘Táimid an-tógtha le caighdeán agus raon na haiku i mbliana agus táimid ag tnúth leis na haiku a roinnt leis an domhan.’
Craolfar físeán gearr le haiku na mbuaiteoirí agus haiku ar tugadh aitheantas speisialta dóibh ar mheáin shóisialta IMRAM agus Éigse Éireann inniu. Tá ceol cumtha go speisialta ag Seán MacErlaine mar fhreagra ar na haiku le cloisteáil ar an bhfíseán freisin.

Young people from across the island of Ireland composing HAIKU
Over 220 teenagers from post-primary schools around the island took part in the DUAIS BASHŌ bilingual competition, organised by IMRAM in collaboration with Éigse Éireann. The winners of the competition have been announced today. 224 students from 19 schools in Dublin, Donegal, Wicklow, Kildare, Kerry, Tyrone, Cork, Clare, Mayo, Carlow, Galway and Limerick composed 446 haiku as part of the competition.
Haiku workshops were organised in schools, led by poets Maeve O' Sullivan, Rody Gorman and Liam Carson, to give the students the opportunity to understand 'the way of the haiku'. The competition was judged by the famous writer and member of Aosdána, Gabriel Rosenstock.
This is what Liam Carson, director of IMRAM, said about the competition: 'Hundreds of young people composing poetry, most of them for the first time, is heart-warming. DUAIS BASHŌ gives them the opportunity to express themselves in a enjoyable, fun way, in the way of the haiku.’
Éigse Éireann are delighted to be working with IMRAM again on DUAIS BASHŌ, says Liz Kelly, Director of Éigse Éireann. 'We are very impressed with the quality and range of haiku this year and look forward to sharing the haiku with the world.'
A short video with the winners' haiku and examples of other haiku that were given special recognition will be broadcast on IMRAM’s and Éigse Éireann’s social media today. Seán MacErlaine, musician, has composed a special piece of music in response to the haiku which will also be heard on the video.
