Poetry Ireland and the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig are delighted to jointly offer two fully resourced Poet-in-Residence Bursaries (one week in duration) in 2019 / 2020. This bursary is specifically designed to appeal to mid-career poets. While many schemes exist to support emerging writers, our intention is to focus on poets who have achieved a level of distinction in their field and who need time away from other demands to focus on writing poems. Here’s what some previous recipients had to say about their time at the Centre:
"Annaghmakerrig: what a concept. Surely there’s nowhere else that combines with such exquisite balance the sheer delight of being left alone, of being given the space to work and dream, and the vibrant camaraderie that comes from being surrounded by fellow practitioners. This wasn’t my first trip to the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, but travelling there via this prestigious and necessary bursary made both the solitude and solidarity all the sweeter." - Billy Ramsell
"This is an award and an experience that has a 'long tail' in terms of its gift. I got the head-space I needed to read copiously, clarity on some elements of the project I was working on, and I wrote new poems. Everything else was taken care of there, and I was able to fully show up to my work with no other distractions. " - Maria McManus
