Irish-language editor Aifric Mac Aodha’s selection includes poetry from Áine Uí Fhoghlú, Eoin P. Ó Murchú, and Pádraig Ó Snodaigh.
In this extended issue, there are a total of 25 books reviwed which speak on protest poetry and on poetry and activism including new collections from Nerys Williams, Arji Manuelpillai, Majed Mujed, and Susannah Dickey; also debut collections from Dawn Watson, Dylan Brennan, and Declan Ryan. Other prose in this issue includes Bebe Ashley’s essay on aphantasia along with an insightful interview with Gabriel Rosenstock, extracted from Inside Innti: A New Wave in Irish Poetry edited by Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh and Tristan Rosenstock. The issue also highlights poetry in translation with Keith Payne and Morgan Leathem Ventura translating work from Luisa Castro and Héctor Pineda Santiago, respectively.
Nidhi Zak / Aria Eipe writes in the editorial to Poetry Ireland Review 141, “These are poets at the frontier of writing. In their hands and mouths, language surges forward: returned, reclaimed, revisioned. Language that confronts and questions and does not back down. Language that is fiercely committed to life, to the fight for what is right, to save whatever it is we might have left.”
The artwork in issue 141, which indicates a layered expression celebrating wildlife as a significant indicator of global environmental issues, is from sculptor and mixed media artist Sylvia Parkinson Brown.
