At Home in Poetry

A multilingual translation performance event for Poetry Day Ireland, presented by the Central School of English in association with and gratefully supported by Poetry Ireland.

The Venue - Central School of English

One of Ireland’s most popular and innovative language schools which welcomes students from all over the world. Poetry forms a core part of the curriculum, teaching diction, pronunciation, intonation, cultural knowledge and spiritual wisdom.

The Project

As part of a translation week leading up to Poetry Day Ireland students and teachers will co-translate poems from students' countries of origin into English, and poems from participating Irish poets into a variety of their native languages including Mongolian, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, Mexican and Chilean Spanish, Turkish, and Italian.

The Event

At 1pm on Poetry Day Ireland in the school’s performance space students will read their translations and this will be followed by performances by Polina Cosgrave and Karl Parkinson.

All will be co-ordinated by Dave Lordan, head teacher at Central School of English and one of Ireland’s most groundbreaking and influential poets. His forthcoming fifth poetry collection Love Speech will be published by Blue Lotus Books in Spring 2027.

The Poets

Polina Cosgrave was born in Volgograd in Russia and now lives in Dublin. She is a bilingual writer, photographer, performer, and Arts Council award recipient. Her latest collection is Cargo from The Gallery Press.

Karl Parkinson is an Irish author based in Dublin, specializing in poetry and prose that depict the raw realities of inner-city working-class life in high-rise estates such as Ballymun and O'Devaney Gardens and the struggle to spiritually transcend such conditions. His new collection of poems Song of The Fallen has just been published by Blue Lotus Books.
