Poetry Ireland is thrilled to announce Poetry Day Ireland 2024 will take place on Thursday 25th April.

Our theme for this year is “Good Sports” celebrating the good sport in all of us, the drive to give it a go or to have a crack at it. Join us as we celebrate the Olympic year, the clash of the ash, the narrow miss, the kick of a ball, the roar of the crowd, the crushing defeat, the herculean feat, the triumph, and our willingness to be good sports in all aspects of our lives.

All are welcome to get involved, with participation encouraged from artists, venues, schools, hospitals, community groups, poetry-lovers, and more. In the past, we have even had contributions from Paul Mescal, Margaret Atwood, Hozier and Mary Robinson.

Individuals and organisers can register their Poetry Day event starting now via this form here with registration closing on April 1st.

Our Bright Ideas bursaries are now closed - details on these to follow.

Whatever way you choose to celebrate, we want you to be a good sport and read, write and share a poem on Thursday 25th April and if you are on socials tag us Instagram, Facebook or Twitter/X please use #PoetryDayIRL
