We invite individuals, organisations and schools to join us on Poetry Day Ireland, an annual island-wide celebration of poetry on 1st May 2025!

This year's theme is May Day, symbolising renewal, hope, and abundance, while also paying homage to International Workers’ Day, a time for reflection on solidarity, unity, and collective strength.

Now in its 11th year, Poetry Day Ireland continues to inspire and connect people through poetry. Poetry Ireland encourages artists, community groups, schools, organisations, venues, and poetry lovers everywhere to get involved. Whether hosting a reading, performance, or creative workshop, information on registering Poetry Day Ireland events can be found below.

Poetry Day Events

Each year we celebrate poetry events across the island, welcoming a diverse range of ways to engage with poetry. All registered events will be listed as part of the Poetry Day Ireland programme and promoted by Poetry Ireland through our What's On page, across social media, and through various Poetry Day promotional material. The event registration form is now closed and we are currently processing event listing. Check out What's On page to discover Poetry Day Ireland 2025 events.

Bright Ideas Bursary

Bring your Poetry Day Ireland project to life with the Bright Ideas bursary. Poetry Ireland invites applications for Bright Ideas, a bursary designed to support and enable individuals, groups, producers, venues and arts organisations to present and promote creative events and projects celebrating poetry across the island on 1st May 2025.

Submissions are now closed for 2025 applications. Applicants will be notified in early April.

Read, Write, and Share a Poem

A great way to celebrate Poetry Day Ireland is by writing, reading, or sharing poetry. In the past, we have even had contributions from Paul Mescal, Margaret Atwood, Hozier and Mary Robinson.

We want to hear from you! Whether your writing your own poetry and reading your favourite poet or sharing your love of poetry online, be sure to tag Poetry Ireland on social media and use the hashtag #PoetryDayIRL.
