New to Poetry Day Ireland?

Poetry Day Ireland takes place on Thursday 30 April 2020, with the theme 'There will be time'. There are lots of ways for individuals, organisations and schools to join in and celebrate. Below you'll find some ideas on how you can get involved.

Plan an event

We welcome all events, big or small, and with our theme 'There will be time' this year, the more original the better! You can find some help and advice on planning an event and you'll soon be able to download our logos and posters to help promote it.

Once you have confirmed your event » send us the details and we'll add it to our online Events calendar

Get to an event

Check out our ‘What’s on’ section to find events and workshops taking place near you on Poetry Day Ireland. Most of the events are free so why not tag along to a poetry reading and see if it’s your scene!

Read a poem

Tell us what poetry you’re reading at the moment. Whether you're an aficionado already or just dipping your toe in, let us know and share using the hashtag #PoetryDayIRL! We will be sharing 12 time themed pocket poems nearer to Poetry Day Ireland so keep an eye out.

Celebrate in School

Take a look at our education pages for information on how to get your school involved on Poetry Day Ireland. We have countless ideas, lesson plans and videos on the way to help bring poetry into the classroom. We will be uploading our new Education Pack for 2020 soon but do take a look at our other resources from previous years » here.

Share a poem

Time to get creative! You can write your own poem on the theme of time (go back to the future, stay present or zoom into the future) or share one of our pocket poems once they're available.
