A novelist, poet, and critic, Chinua Achebe is regarded as the founding father of African fiction. His work chronicled Nigeria’s troubled history since the beginning of British colonial rule.  His first novel Things Fall Apart remains the most widely studied, translated and read African novel.
 

Canadian Astronaut and Spaceship Commander, engineer, musician and fighter pilot, Chris Hadfield reads his chosen poem for Poetry Day Ireland 2022. 
‘High Flight’ by John Gillespie Magee Jr.

John Gillespie Magee was a World War II Anglo-American Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilot and poet.  He was killed in a mid-air collision over England in 1941, aged only 19 years old.
