Poems, Stones, and Circles

Two Greystones events bookending Poetry Day Ireland on Thursday May 1st. Start Poetry Day Ireland with a sunrise swim at The Cove in Greystones followed by readings on the beach. In the evening head to The Whale Theatre in Greystones for an night of poetry and song to celebrate May Day.

Sunrise Swim and Stone Circle

Join the Happy Pear and Swimrise swimmers for Sunrise on May Day (5:50am), meeting down at The Cove in Greystones. Take a stone with a line from a poem into the sea, bring a poem or two that you like, or have written, and join in forming our own stone circle to read poetry after the swim.

All environmentally friendly products provided to write on stones. This event is free and open to the public.

Evening Bealtaine Poem Circles

Head to The Whale Theatre in Greystones at 8pm for an evening of poetry and song in celebration of Poetry Day Ireland.

Join guest poets: Frances Browner, Eithne Hand, Sian Quill, Deirdre McKernan Crosby, and Marc Diamond; musicians: Brian Whelan, John Hutchings, Liam Ruth, and poet/sound therapy practitioner, Layla Moroney, who blends the healing power of sound meditation with the artistry of poetry.

We will also acknowledge the Celtic festival of Bealtaine, which took place in prehistoric stone circles. These spiritual sites, where bonfires were kindled to welcome the arrival of summer, were believed to have healing properties.

More recently, May Day united workers of the world to campaign for their rights. All of these themes will be reflected in poems and songs to nourish the soul, and a finale of sound bath therapy to soothe the heart and mind.

This event is ticketed. Book here.
