Adare

With its picture postcard main street of thatched cottages and medieval buildings, Adare village in Co Limerick is rich in ancient and archaeological remains.

Adare’s history dates back to 1200 AD and it has a unique attractiveness which has made it a major tourist destination, in particular for overseas visitors. Located 18 kilometres south-west of Limerick City, on the N21 Limerick-Tralee route, Adare is set in a picturesque location on the banks of the River Maigue (a tributary of the River Shannon).

It’s renowned as one of Ireland’s prettiest villages, is designated as a Heritage Town, and has won many prestigious Tidy Town Awards. Adare abounds with a rich history and a strong heritage, which remain ever present in its monuments, thatched cottages, its streets and its people.
