As well as being a poet, Louis Mulcahy is a master ceramic sculptor and potter and has been dubbed the ‘Godfather of Irish Craft’. He has been published in many journals including Poetry Ireland, The Stinging Fly, Stony Thursday, and has read on RTE1, Lyric Radio and Radio na Gaeltachta.
At this pre-recorded event, Louis reads from his latest collection, The Potter’s Book, a collection longlisted by the Irish Times Poetry Now Award. In this, his fourth collection, his development as an artist, as well as the intricacies of the practice, Louis Mulcahy balances a fascination with the primal beauty of clay, glaze and fire with an expert familiarity gained throughout the years.
In this conversation between poets, he talks about the rewards and challenges of writing as Gaeilge and reads from earlier poems, both in Irish and English.
