Presented in conjunction with Carrick-on-Shannon Library, ‘Pieces of Poetry’ is a platform to introduce you to three different poets and the joy of listening to the poet’s voice. We are delighted to present readings by Seamus O’Rourke, Ciarán O’Rourke and Mary Guckian.

Seamus O’Rourke is an award-winning writer, poet, director, and actor from Carrigallen.

Ciarán O’Rourke is an Irish poet with connections to Rossinver.  He has published a collection of poetry, and has won many prizes including the Westport and the Fish Poetry prizes.

Mary Guckian who is a native of Kiltoghert, was awarded the Leitrim Guardian Literary Award and has had many collections of poetry published.

Their different writings are influenced by their rural and urban upbringings. On one hand, featuring portrayals of emotion steeped in country rhythms and seasonal rituals about ordinary people, as well as delving into the art of history, remembered lives and contemporary conflicts for illumination and insight.

These poets will share with you a small selection of their work over six consecutive evenings.
