Poetry Underfoot
A reason to dance in the rain! As you meander around Carrick-on-Suir from Ormond Castle to the Blueway you will see the ‘Rain Paint’ installations featuring lines of poetry which includes our own Poet Laureate Billy Fenton’s specially commissioned poem for Poetry Town. These lines of poetry will only become visible when wet, a lovely way to brighten up a rainy day.
The stencils for the Poet Laureate poem were created by local artist Sheila Wood.
Sheila resides in Listrolin, Co. Kilkenny, 10 miles outside Carrick-on-Suir and is a member of the Tudor Artisan Hub Arts Collective. Sheila graduated from Camberwell School of Art, UK and was commissioned by the Palace of Westminster, London to paint a Ceilidh in Celebration of the Millennium.
Sheila has been involved in numerous public art projects for Carrick-on-Suir. Her mural honouring the Clancy Brothers is just one of a series of public realm artworks that have attracted much acclaim.
