The Laureate reads...
Cootehill Poet Laureate Noel Monahan will read his commissioned Town Poem for the first time as part of a short film, accompanied by music from well-known Cavan musician Daragh Slacke.
Additional guest artists will be figures from the town of Cootehill. The film will be shot in several local historic sites and beauty spots in Cootehill. An historian will introduce the history of the town and Noel will visit the grounds of Bellamont House.
Cootehill is an area that Noel knows well for its history and resonance as a 17th centure market town. Noel won the first Cootehill Poetry Prize in 1990 with his poem 'American Wake' as part of the Cootehill Arts Festival organised by Dermot Healy.
