Community Engagement Projects

Poetry Ireland firmly believes in the power of poetry as a tool for social and personal growth. We are committed to engaging our local community through a programme of compelling experiences tailored to our neighbourhood and its needs.
As part of Poetry Town, we’ve planned a number of unique workshops for community groups in Dublin 1. These include:
Knit and Sew Group
Dublin 1 Poet Laureate Rachael Hegarty will facilitate a poetry workshop for the Knit and Sew Group from The North Wall Community Development Project on Lower Sheriff Street. North Wall CDP has been empowering and developing communities since 1985.
Beginners’ Poetry Workshop with Pavee Point
Poetry Ireland will be continuing our relationship with our neighbours, Pavee Point. We hold so many of the same ideals with Pavee Point and it's great to be able to facilitate a workshop there for Poetry Town. Martin Reilly, a local Traveler, will be giving two poetry workshops to a group of Traveler men over the course of Poetry Town.
Two youth club workshops
John Cummins will lead two youth club workshops with:
- Belvedere Youth Club, Ireland’s oldest youth club, has worked for over a century to empower, educate and support young people in Dublin’s north inner city.
- SWAN Youth Service, who envision a more equal, inclusive future in which young people feel woven into their communities, in control of their lives and destinies, and empowered to reach their full potential.
