Community Engagement Projects

Listowel Poetry Town and Poetry Ireland firmly believe in the power of poetry as a tool for social and personal growth. We are committed to engaging our local community through a programme of compelling experiences tailored to our neighbourhood and its needs. 

As part of Poetry Town, we’ve planned a number of unique workshops for community groups in Listowel. These include:

Haiga Workshop with Mary Lavery Carrig

Mary Lavery Carrig will lead a workshop for members of Listowel Active Retirement Group in creating their own unique haiga art in a lovely greeting card style. Haiga blends a simple nature image with a fragment of haiku poetry, bringing both into the same art space.

Poetry Stroll in Listowel

Members of Listowel Active Retirement Group will join Mary Lavery Carrig for a poetry stroll along the banks of the majestic River Feale as it winds its way around Listowel. They will bring their own favourite poem to recite or can simply choose a poem from ‘Mary’s Selection Box of Popular Poetry’ on the day.
