Schools Awards in Naas

As part of Poetry Town Naas, Schools Awards took place, with primary and secondary school students invited to submit poems in six different categories. They could write a poem about their town, a local place, or a person from the area.

Schools in the town were contacted with details of how the Awards work. Entries opened on 3 September and closed on 30 September.

About the Awards

Awards entries were judged anonymously. An independent adjudicator was appointed for each town who shortlisted the submissions, and Poetry Ireland made the final decisions on the awards.

Full information, including details of the categories, can be found on the Rules and Conditions of Entry PDF

Winner - Naas

We're delighted to announce that Ben Mooney, of Kilashee MDNS Naas, has won in the 5th/6th class category for his poem 'Naas, a Beautiful Place'.

Naas, A Beautiful Place

Along the N7 is a wonderful place,
Turn left at the ball,
And head into Naas.

Drive through the town
And take in the sights,
See the beautiful flowers
At Nolan’s traffic lights.

Coffee galore,
You’re in for a treat,
Stop off at the Moat
and take a seat .

Swans on the Green,
A popular spot,
Walk around the lake,
With the ice cream you got.

Stop by the church
With its’ massive steeple,
Next to the school,
With lots of people.

Naas Is my home,
The place that I’m safe,
Thank you to Naas,
My wonderful place.
