Culture Matters is a co-operative of writers and activists which aims to take a progressive political approach to culture, including the arts.
This specific project is an anthology of poetry from Ireland exploring themes relevant to working-class life, politics, communities and culture. They are aiming to attract poems relevant to and rooted in the lives and concerns of Irish working women and men, including rural workers, students and children, precariously employed and the unemployed.
On completion, the anthology will be available in e-book and print form from Culture Matters. Their approach to what constitutes such political poetry is broad. It encompasses protest poetry on public, political issues, but it would also include a broad range of personal and public themes with a political dimension – the environment, gender issues, class-based themes, ethnic and language.
