Patrick Kavanagh Fellowship

The Kavanagh Fellowship is an Irish literary award given by the trustees of the estate of Katherine Kavanagh to an Irish poet in his or her middle years, who must be in need of financial assistance.

Katherine Kavanagh wrote in her will:

'In the light of certain conversations that I had with my late husband I am of the opinion that poets can best benefit from grants, bursaries, loans or any manner of financial assistance during their "middle years," that is to say that period of their creative life when they have established that they are capable of work of merit and before they are too old to reap the full benefit of such assistance.'

The Patrick and Katherine Kavanagh Fellowship in poetry is advertised from time to time. Recent recipients include Colette Bryce, Laurence O’Dwyer and Enda Coyle-Greene.

The Trustees are Moya Cannon, Hugh Mohan, Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, Eunan O’Halpin and Peter Sirr.
Registered charity No. 20033026.  The Trustees have complied with the Charities Governance Code.
